Prairie Meadows recently awarded Puppy Jake Foundation a Betterment Grant totaling $15,000. The grant will help fund their service dogs for veterans program. Prairie Meadows is a nonprofit organization dedicated to lessening the burden of government by promoting economic development, jobs, agriculture, and tourism in the state of Iowa.
“We are honored to be selected as a recipient of the Prairie Meadows Community Betterment Grant,” said Lisa Russell, Puppy Jake Foundation CEO. “This investment allows Puppy Jake Foundation to expand our work of placing service dogs with wounded veterans, strengthening not only the lives of those we serve but also the communities we call home.”
During the grant period, PJF will bring 36 puppies to Iowa to begin the two-year training process, advance the training of an additional 24 dogs, and graduate 12 of them into active support or service for wounded veterans, plus provide long-term support including annual public access certification to 33 existing teams. By the time our youngest pups graduate, Prairie Meadows funding will help train, place, and/or provide follow-up support for dogs that offer life-changing care to an estimated 65 veterans and 130 immediate family members/caretakers.
“As a nonprofit organization, Prairie Meadows is proud to support initiatives that strengthen our community through investments in arts and culture, education, economic development, and human services. By funding meaningful projects, we help create lasting impact across Central Iowa. We look forward to continuing this important work with our partners,” said Julie Stewart, Senior Vice President of Business Development at Prairie Meadows.
